RSS feeds allow Internet users to subscribe to Web sites; these are typically sites that change or add content regularly. Users, through RSS feeds, receive a notification every time a subscribed Web site has new contents. RSS is a format, as HTML is. To render a HTML page you need a Web browser; to subscribe a RSS feed you need a feed reader (also called news aggregator).
Feed readers reduce the time and effort needed to regularly check Web sites of interest for updates. A feed reader is able to subscribe to a feed, check for new contents and retrieve them. Desktop aggregators are software applications that are dedicated to the task of managing the subscriptions, monitoring and syndicated content of a user. Many aggregators display contents in a window or list view similar to any e-mail program. FeedReader is a good choice for Microsoft Windows platforms.
